Britney Spears and longtime boyfriend/agent Jason Trawick are finally engaged. A source confirmed that Jason popped the question last night – and half an hour ago Britney tweeted, “OMG. Last night Jason surprised me with the one gift I’ve been waiting for. Can’t wait to show you! SO SO SO excited!!!! Xxo”

Tonight the pair are scheduled to celebrate their pending nuptials in Vegas. Ahhh, the subtle, elegant romance. Hopefully that fake Eiffel Tower will be involved. Class that sh*t up something nice.

Jason supposedly went the old fashioned route and asked Brit’s dad Jamie for his daughter’s hand in marriage. Which isn’t actually all that old fashioned – it’s probably a legal necessity, since Jamie is still his daughter’s conservator. Still, let’s ignore that part and pretend it was good ‘ol fashioned gentlemanly behavior.

Brit and Jason have talked a lot about getting hitched, and the proposal won’t be a surprise. Which is probably okay, since Spears has had a couple marriages already.

Radar is reporting that their engagement will be a long one – no one wants Britney to walk down the aisle until all the lawsuits she’s currently facing are wrapped up. She’s used the fact that she needs to be under a conservatorship to avoid being deposed. But lawyers would sensibly argue that if she’s capable of entering into a marriage, she’s capable of testifying in her lawsuits. So there’s a lot of unromantic stuff to wrap up before Brit will be walking down the aisle for the third time
