Catherine Zeta-Jones’ Rep Confirms She’s Hospitalized For Bipolar II

People magazine has confirmed with Catherine Zeta-Jones’ rep that she has indeed checked herself into a mental hospital. According to our earlier story, it’s Silver Hill Hospital in New Canaan, CT – though Zeta-Jones’ rep didn’t elaborate on that. She did say that Catherine is being treated for Bipolar II. So it sounds like the Enquirer’s version – that she was there for rehab – wasn’t the full story.

“After dealing with the stress of the past year, Catherine made the decision to check in to a mental health facility for a brief stay to treat her Bipolar II Disorder… She’s feeling great and looking forward to starting work this week on her two upcoming films.” It’s rare for a celebrity to be so candid. Some days it feels like every celeb goes to rehab eventually, and it certainly wouldn’t have been unusual. Admitting she’s struggling with mental illness is a brave move on Zeta-Jones’ part. We wish her the best.

Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones are shown on February 16th in NYC.
