According to the print edition of the National Enquirer, Catherine Zeta-Jones checked into a mental hospital in Connecticut last Wednesday. She has appeared to be on edge in public at several points during husband Michael Douglas’ battle with throat cancer, and had a breakdown at JFK airport in NYC this past October.

The Enquirer claims Catherine’s staying at Silver Hill Hospital in New Canaan, CT, and it sounds like she’s there for rehab. Their source notes, “Catherine had a lot of trouble coping [with Douglas' cancer]. She was chain smoking and drinking.” and also mentioned “It was tearing Catherine apart to see such a vital man as Michael in such a weakened state… I think she was crumbling.”

INF Daily caught up with Michael Douglas as he was going for a walk in the rain this morning, and he looked understandably stressed, to say the least. We wish Catherine and Michael the best, and hope for a speedy recovery.

Update: Catherine Zeta-Jones’ rep has confirmed she’s being hospitalized for bipolar II.
