What on earth happened at the Oscars last night? Anne Hathaway and James Franco completely bombed, that’s what happened. They took what was normally a fun event and turned it into the most boring night on television. In front of billions of people all over the world.

Franco was either completely and utterly nervous with stage fright or high. Or both. Anne just seemed to over compensate with her smiles and exuberance. But what we really missed were the jokes. What happened to an opening show that made us laugh? James Franco coming out in drag is not enough to get the audience behind them. Nor is Hathaway calling Hugh Jackman a jackass in song. Needless to say when Billy Crystal came onto the stage, we were hoping he’d stay – or even the Bob Hope hologram. Anything would have been better.
