Tom Cruise Revives Career by Lightening Up
Even though Knight and Day is getting terrible reviews – and doing terribly at the box office (number 3 on its opening weekend, raking in a paltry $20.5 million), Tom Cruise’s reputation is actually improving. Why? Because he’s not taking himself so seriously anymore, according to media image experts. Thanks to his Len Grossman character in Tropic Thunder, Cruise is starting to get an audience with a younger crowd. And even though Knight and Day is laugh-out-loud bad, Tom’s willing to knock his over-reliance on stunts.
On Friday he was doing a cooking segment on Jimmy Kimmel Live when the actor pretended to be upset that the eggs weren’t farm fresh. Deciding to get some better ones, Tom and Jimmy headed outside – via a tandem zip-line from the top of Kimmel’s studio. While still wearing their cooking aprons, naturally. Tom’s lightening up, lecturing less, and even if Knight and Day doesn’t perform well, it looks like he’s starting to resurrect his career after all.
